Flow rate lower than expected (reservoir)

After drilling and testing the well, the flow rate might be below what was estimated during conception phases and results in overall low system performances from the beginning of the project. This risk is generally accounted for during project development phase using uncertainty analysis and modelling of the doublet based on exploration data collected.

Informations

  • Category: Risks due to subsurface uncertainties
  • Id: D-1
  • Phases:
    • Drilling / Testing
  • Consequences:
    • Economic / Performance / Acceptability

Mitigation

  • Prevention:
    • Implement best practices for well and completion design, in consistence with reservoir targeted.
    • Investigation ahead of project to characterise the reservoir hydraulic parameters.
  • Monitoring:
    • Accurate collection and interpretation  of productivity data of wells for securing information for the expected yields
    • Doing new measurements in existing wells for securing information for the expected yield
  • Corrective measures:
    • Adaptation of the drillpath to reach multiple targets
    • Try to drill long enough production section for securing the expected yield
    • Use of external casing packer between the loose formation and the productive layer

The colors represent a computation of typical percentage of answers expected for each cell in the risk matrix. The numbers in each cell represent the actual answers from the risk survey.
