Hydraulic connectivity between wells is insufficient for commercial use

After testing or commissioning of the wells, the hydraulic connectivity may be either too high and cause thermal breakthrough from the injection to the production well or too low and cause important pressure variation in the reservoir. In both cases, the overall geothermal loop is put in jeopardy.

Informations

  • Category: Risks due to subsurface uncertainties
  • Id: D-15
  • Phases:
    • Exploitation / Development
  • Consequences:
    • Economic / Performance / Acceptability

Mitigation

  • Prevention:
    • Thorough well testing
    • Thorough reservoir planning
  • Monitoring:
    • Perform adequate interference or tracer tests to provide  information for the re-evaluation of the hydrogeological model
  • Corrective measures:
    • Stimulation (thermal, chemical or hydraulic)
    • Drill another well in same hydrogeological unit
