Flow rate degrades over time

After a certain amount of time, flow rates may degrades due to limited connectivity of the reservoir for exemple and thus reduce the overall system performance. This risk is generally encountered when managment plan of the field is incorrect, and might be due to poor caracterisation of uncertainties associated to reservoir parameters and inaccurate modelling of reservoir behavior with time

Informations

  • Category: Risks due to subsurface uncertainties
  • Id: D-2
  • Phases:
    • Exploitation / Development
  • Consequences:
    • Economic / Performance / Acceptability

Mitigation

  • Prevention:
    • Thorough reservoir management plan
    • Select suitable production rates, consistent with reservoir hydraulic parameters
  • Monitoring:
    • Perform adequate interference or tracer tests to provide information for the re-evaluation of the hydrogeological model
  • Corrective measures:
    • Perform stimulation (thermal, chemical, hydraulic)
    • Decrease of production rate (temporary)
    • Drill additional production well or drain
