Wellbore instability

Can be a: - breakdown: rupture in traction of the rock generating an induced fracture; - breakout: compressive wellbore failure in the region of the maximum compressive stress inducing an elongation/ovality of the wellbore; - kick: formation pressure is higher than well pressure inducing formation fluid flow into the well); - or fluid losses: mud pressure higher than minimum principal stress inducing losses of drilling fluid into the formation
