Lack or loss of integrity of the well/subsurface equipment

Lack or loss of integrity of subsurface equipment can be due to integrity failures due to poor cementation practices, mechanical damage during well development, corrosion and scaling, geo-mechanical disturbances, thermal stress and material failure or degradation, and aging over the life cycle of operations (drilling, work-over, exploitation, abandonment). It can also be due to equipment deficiencies.

Informations

  • Category: Environmental risks
  • Id: F-7
  • Phases:
    • Drilling / Testing
    • Exploitation / Development
    • Post-closure
  • Consequences:
    • Economic / Performance / Acceptability
    • Health / Safety / Environment

Mitigation

  • Prevention:
    • Thorough cementing procedures -Thorough well design
    • Perform adequate evaluation of corrosion and scaling potential
    • Adapt the material selection to the chemical/physical properties of the fluid
    • Temperature Maintenance
  • Monitoring:
    • New sampling and chemical analyses
  • Corrective measures:
    • Regular maintenance of the equipment, replacement or patch if needed

The colors represent a computation of typical percentage of answers expected for each cell in the risk matrix. The numbers in each cell represent the actual answers from the risk survey. More details about this computation can be found here. The numbers in each cell represent the actual answers from the risk survey.
